Natural & Veined Products: Dekton
As a ceramic based material at its’ core, Dekton has impressive levels of resistance to heat, staining, impact and abrasion. It also UV stable and highly resistant to thermal shock, making it suitable for outdoor applications.
Below you can find an overview of some of the key factors to consider when choosing Dekton.
Properties of Dekton Worktops
Many colours in the Dekton range have strong veining. It is not possible to decide upon the location of veins, which can be random in nature, so it should be expected that results may vary from expectation. Veins will also make joint locations more visible.
Drainer Grooves & Edges
Dekton colours are not full bodied. This means within the surface, there will typically be a simplified or complimentary version of the surface image. This means that edges and drainer grooves will show a visible discontinuation of the image on the surface.
Colours within the Dekton range are tightly quality controlled. Negligible inclusions or flecks may still be present, but these are considered within tolerance if not visible from a viewing distance of 1 meter.
Dekton variants excluding X-Gloss can withstand direct chopping from most standard kitchen knives, excluding ceramics. While the material is highly resistant to impact, care should be taken around exposed edges, as sufficient blunt force may cause chipping.
Slab Size Limitations
Slab sizes in Dekton are 3200mm x 1440mm. This may mean that some designs require linear jointing for both surfaces and upstands. Corners will typically involve 2 sections to prevent the risk of breakage in transport. Ease of installation may be considered when deciding upon joints in your design.
Surface texture can vary between some Dekton styles. X-Gloss surfaces are highly polished and are less resilient. Other finished can include ‘textured’ and ‘velvet’, on top of Dekton’s classic finely textured smooth matte finish.
Care & Maintenance
Dekton worktops are impervious to moisture, UV & mildew, and highly resistant to heat, impact, scratches, abrasion and staining. Worktops will require very little maintenance. Guidance on cleaning can be found here.
